Project Title:
Super Mario Brothers: The Movie
Studio:
Allied Filmmakers, Cinergi Pictures Entertainment Inc., Hollywood Pictures, Lightmotive, Nintendo Co. Ltd.
Created:
Four stages of De-Evolution for King Koopa (Dennis Hopper) to be morphed later
Summary:

Sticks and Stones was tasked with the creation of “King Koopa’s Demise”. The sequence appears at the climax of the film where the villain (Dennis Hopper as “King Koopa”) is “de-evolved” through several stages of prehistoric creature. All of these creations, four stages in all, were blended together in post production by the computer graphics department. The final stage was then morphed into a dissolving slime that pours to the ground.

The different stages broke down into make-ups, mechanical puppets and computer graphics. We shot the sequence over three weeks in Wilmington, North Carolina. Since it was August, the heat and humidity were a bit overwhelming. View photos here.
